~ Entering God's story
While there are specific elements involved in giving ourselves to God and His story we must be careful not to turn it into a mere formula as this would turn the most remarkable of all relationships into something very shallow and unreal. To be part of God’s story is to give ourselves to a relationship with the Creator of the universe and is possible only because of his amazing grace.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works so that no one can boast.” ~ Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
Believe in the reality of life from the perspective of God’s story and in Jesus Christ as God’s only Son sent to bring us new life.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16 (NIV)
“... by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” ~ Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
Repent by acknowledging your sinful, selfish nature and changing your mind about who will be in charge of your life.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” ~ Acts 3:19 (NIV)
Confess that you are surrendering control of your life to Jesus Christ.
"If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we declare with our mouths that we believe, and so we are saved.” ~ Romans 10:9-10 (NCV)
Be baptized into Jesus Christ as an appeal to God for a good conscience.
"...this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God..” ~ 1 Peter 3:21 (NIV)
“In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.” ~ Colossians 2:11-12 (NIV)
Live as a disciple giving yourself to become, live and love like Jesus .
“...make disciples...baptizing them...and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” ~ Matthew 28:19-20
“...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” ~ Phil 2:12-13
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him...” ~ Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)
“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” ~ Acts 17:28 (NIV)
“Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” ~ 1 John 2:6 (NIV)
